Since the anniversary of Laye-Alama Condé’s death on the 7th of January 2005, annual memorial   days in the form of rallies, protests and similar events have been held on this day.  The first commemoration event resulted in a memorial plaque being placed on the Sielwalleck corner in Bremen, where it remained for weeks. Over the years, from these temporary commemorations events the current idea of a permanent memorial site evolved.
